Many drivers love their cars, so they often change the engine oil themselves. It takes 30-45 minutes to change oil. It is not a complicated process, however we strictly recommend adherence to safe work instructions and oil recommendations as per car’s manual. You will find the recommended oil for your car in our online catalogue or you can select it yourself according to the API specifications and/or SAE viscosity. If you need help in selecting oil for your car, we will advise you with pleasure.
You will need the following in order to change your car’s engine oil:
Step 1 – Prepare properly for work. Cold oil will not drain out of the engine properly, so try to raise the oil temperature up to the normal operating temperature before starting the oil replacement work (you can leave the car outside with the engine on or simply go for a ride and then start work when the proper operational temperature of the oil is reached). Turn off the engine, put on the gloves and lift the hood; unscrew the oil filler cap in order to avoid vacuum formation; the filter can then be removed easier and the oil will drain out.
Step 2 – Drain the old used engine oil. You will find the drain nut (plug) at the bottom of your car. It should be located in the lower part of the engine crankcase. Put the container for the collection of drained oil under the drain plug and slightly behind it. Turn the plug counter-clockwise with the key until it starts turning freely. Finish turning the plug by hand. Be careful at that moment, because the oil may start draining quickly and it may be hot. The majority of drain plugs have a copper sealing washer.
Try not to drop or lose the plug, and let all the oil drain out; that may take several minutes. If necessary, replace it with a new one. Let all the oil drain out and that may take several minutes..
Step 3 – Remove the old oil filter; unscrew the oil filter turning it counter-clockwise with a filter key. Finish turning it by hand and do not touch the hot surfaces of the engine. The oil filter may be filled with oil, so put it down carefully and pour its contents into the oil collection container.
Step 4 – Screw the oil release cork into the new oil filter. Clean the oil drain plug and copper washer. If necessary, replace or smoothen it. Screw in the plug by hand and finish screwing it in with the key. Do not screw it in too tightly; do not over-tighten it. Clean the filter mounting socket on the engine well and the area around it. Then take the new filter and lubricate the ring sealing washer of the filter with a thin layer of the new oil. Carefully screw the new filter onto the thread clockwise. If you insert it correctly, the filter will fit and turn easily. Screw the filter on by hand; do not over-tighten it.
Step 5 – Pour in the new engine oil. Pour in the right quantity of oil through the oil filling opening on the top of the engine, checking the level with the oil dipstick or gauge. Turn over the filling opening lid and clean the oil residues from it and the surface of the engine. Start the engine. The control light of oil pressure system should turn off in several moments. By no means start the car engine without oil! Turn off the engine after several minutes and check the oil level again. Add oil if necessary. Important – check that there are no drops or oil leaks under the car, particularly around the oil filter and oil drain plug of the engine crankcase.
Congratulations! The engine oil of your car has been changed.
Write down the mileage and the date of each oil replacement. You can acquire special Mobil oil replacement stickers for this purpose. Having noted the mileage, you will see when you have to change the oil next time. Follow the oil replacement intervals recommended by the car manufacturer.
IMPORTANT!
Properly recycle and dispose of waste engine oil!
It is strictly forbidden to dispose waste oil together with household waste, pour oil into drainage areas or on the ground. Waste engine oil is very poisonous and toxic to the environment, therefore it is very important to dispose of it safely. Consult the companies specializing in this area.
